I know what it feels like

This is the program I wish I had that time years ago when I was drained. 

More like I-couldn’t-even-put-myself-together-to-work-for-a-few-months-wiped-out. 

Those were the days when I was working on a purposeful business that I loved, but most of my work was in front of my computer.  On many days I didn’t see much more nature than the pictures on my phone’s wallpaper.   .  . and  soon enough the overworking and neglect of self-care caught up with me.

During my time off - my intuition guided me to volunteer on a farm.  Even though when I got there I couldn’t tell the weeds from the crop (true), that rich soil planted with rows of deliciousness,  guided me back to the ocean and  back to the rhythm of the moon.  

That’s when I committed in earnest to deepening what I now call my  nature practice

I don't  have all the answers – but since then, I have helped hundreds of nature-loving people from places like the United Nations, the SF Botanical Garden, and One World Ayurveda in Bali find more calm, clarity, hope and radiance in a nature-centered way.

A Bit About Me 

I'm a nature practice teacher and a documentary filmmaker.  A daughter of the ceiba, adopted by the redwoods.

Through my work, I help nature lovers find deeper calm and clarity – without moving to the forest or becoming a monk!

Before sheltering in place, I used to lead nature retreats for groups from the UN, the SF Botanical Garden and One World Ayurveda in Bali.

Now I teach people around the world through Nature Practice Flow, a beautiful online community of people committed to aligning their wellbeing with the Earth's.

I directed my most recent film, One Word Sawalmem, with Michael “Pom” Preston of the Winnemem Wintu tribe from Mt. Shasta.  It was a finalist in the Tribeca Film Institute short film program and was selected for and won awards at 35 festivals around the world.

Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, my perspective is also infused with 20 years of study with the Dalai Lama, nature retreats with Thich Nhat Hanh, and learning from indigenous wisdom keepers and some of the great naturalists of our time. 

My wish is for you to find healing in nature while reciprocating in healing our relationship with the Earth for generations to come.

Your Questions Answered

Nature Practice Flow is an online program with 2 main components:

  • LIVE COMPONENTS:  the Mentoring & Sharing Circles and the Mini Nature Retreats, are offered as live video calls, that you can attend live, or submit your questions for ahead of time.  These events are also recorded and added to the platform.
  • SELF-PACED COMPONENTS other resources like the daily audio recordings of Nature Practice Foundations, are available for you listen to on your own schedule on your porch or terrace or backyard - or in whatever nature is nearby.

Our weekly Mentoring and Sharing Circles are usually about 90 minutes long.  These are also recorded for you to listen to on your own schedule.

In terms of daily practice, I guide you through a step-by-step program to develop a personal routine that you can enjoy for up to 25 minutes per day, including instruction and practice.  

With this small, regular investment of time in yourself, you will be able to go from being someone who may be feeling stuck, stressed and over-reactive to a ✨ nature-infused being of radiating vibrance ✨ or something even better than that!

The program is designed for nature-loving people – who may be feeling a bit out of sorts, overwhelmed, over-scheduled, over-reactive – so you can reclaim your best self and bring it forth to this precious life, to your relationships, to your work and, of course, to the Earth. 

You may have tried meditation apps, time management, meal planning, gratitude journals and are interested in a more nature-centered option for supporting your wellbeing.

In this program, nature practice refers to my personal wellbeing modality that I practice every day.  It is a way to feel more awake and vibrant, calm and clear by engaging in deeper intimacy with the Earth.  It includes meditation, journaling, poetry, storytelling, music and many different ways to celebrate nature and to be in deeper alignment with the Earth.  It is also a way to support the process of rematriation and of healing our relationship with the Earth.  

My nature practice stems from time in nature and from these 3 main influences:  

  • 20 years of study with the Dalai Lama and nature retreats with Thich Nhat Hanh

  • exposure to some of the great naturalists of our time – from Jane Goodall; to Her Deepness, Sylvia Earle; to Peter Wohlleben, of the Hidden Life of Trees.

  • many occasions since childhood to be in the company of indigenous wisdom keepers, in Venezuela, where I am from; in California where I now live; and in many different places around the world.

But, there are several reasons why I ask for an application and call with you before you join.

First – I want to make sure that I can offer a good fit for your needs.

Second – I want you to succeed, so I'm checking to make sure that your level of motivation is there.  The program doesn't work on it's own.  It's called a 'practice' for a reason, and that's where your commitment comes in.  :)

Third – part of my promise to the participants of this program is that I'm curating this community with like-minded people who are committed to aligning their wellbeing to the Earth's.  The application and call are the first steps in enabling me to make good on that agreement.

Besides - the calls are a favorite, energizing part of my day!  I have met inspiring people from the Americas to Asia to Africa to Australia to Europe.

The calls haven't always resulted in a new person joining the program, but they have always resulted in a beautiful connection being made, and that is just priceless.

At first, my teaching was informal.  Friends asked me to teach them the practices I was working on, so we would get together on Saturday mornings or we would go on a hike and I would share what I thought would be helpful.

I enjoyed those sessions a lot and soon started to realize that I may be able to help more people.  One thing led to another and through a series of synchronicities I connected with Mark Coleman of Awake in the Wild.  I completed his year-long teacher training, including 4 week-long nature retreats and that is how I became a Certified Nature Mindfulness Teacher. 

This program is designed to support you in developing and deepening your practice - and that includes answering your questions!  During our Weekly Mentoring and Sharing Circles I will be answering the questions that come up that week.  If you can’t make the session, you can submit your questions beforehand.  I will address them on the call and you can review the recording on your own schedule.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced, dedicated meditator, the program will offer richness and ongoing support for your practice.  All levels are welcome. 

I understand what you mean.  A number of people who have participated in my nature practice programs have expressed the same concern.  The beauty of Nature Practice is that it is a nature-centered way of getting the some of the same benefits of focusing on your breath.    Past participants have also found it to be a lot easier and more enjoyable - which means that you’ll want to keep coming back to it time and time again.

This program is designed to be affordable for anyone who's interested, regardless of their current financial resources.

A sliding-scale scholarship option, where you pay the amount that works for you, is an important part of every program I have ever offered. 

I offer this option for several reasons.

First, I would much rather live in a society where we each offer our gifts freely for the benefit of all, for the Earth and for future generations.  For me, this is a way of moving in that direction.

Second, my programs are enriched by people with a variety of situations, perspectives and cultural experiences and so encouraging diversity in this way benefits everyone.  

Finally, money is like water.  Sometimes it flows abundantly, other times it trickles in.  I have been in both situations and have benefited from the generosity of countless people along my journey.  This is a way to continue to be a part of that stream.
